The traditionally crafty Dutchman circumvented the law for a time by transshipping the tea in British ships, but the seed for British takeover of the industry was planted. Over the next few hundred years, as the British Empire expanded, so too did the British tea industry. Today, in Britain, breakfast without a good cuppa of is almost considered a crime itself!
