Information: Everyone has their disagreements. In Scotland, they last 500 years. That's how long a few lasted between the MacDonald and Campbell clans. It all started with the murder of a hulk of a man known as Big Colin Campbell in 1296 over a property issue. As you can well imagine, keeping a feud going for 500 years takes some fortitude. Luckily, the local populace, descended as they were from Vikings, had that in spades. As you can also imagine, keeping such a feud going is thirsty work. Hence the Scott's propensity for distilling some of the hardiest spirits known to humankind, single malt scotch whiskey. The Highlanders like their food and drink strong. When tea was introduced to Scotland, many years after the famous feud, the blends that gained in popularity were those that were powerful and full of flavor, characteristics not dissimilar to those of their beloved whiskey. Scottish breakfast tea is a perfect example. The blend is a who's who of the rich black teas: Second flush Assam Leaf (delivers thick robust malt), South Indian (high mountain grown with thick flavor notes), Chinese Keemun Panda #1 (round robust notes of wine), and Ching Wo County Orange Pekoe (provides a distinct oak character). Scottish Breakfast Tea is a hearty tea everyone can agree upon.
